Teaching Jobs In Colorado

Martha Said:

Teaching job in Colorado?

We Answered:

I lived in Colorado for over 10 years.. for awhile in the Denver area then in Fort Collins. Fort Collins has excellent schools, my daughter loves Ft Collins- middle schools are very good and I think the hiring market is much better than CA. Its so much better than Denver and the cost of living is lower too. Its only about 50 minutes north of Denver.

Gladys Said:

In Colorado, would teachers applying for a job be discriminated against if they take medical marijuana?

We Answered:

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, you cannot be discriminated against. If you feel you were wrongfully denied employment, you have grounds to sue.

Felix Said:

Is it hard to find a teaching job in Fort Collins Colorado?

We Answered:

Since Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins, I am sad to say that the availability is not good, unless you want to teach at a lower income school. Many grads from CSU want to stay and teach where they had their practicums. You should still try!

Corey Said:

How available are teaching jobs in the West, such as Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Idaho?

We Answered:

Wyoming is hiring like mad, so is Montana.

Wyoming is - currently - unaffected by much of the economic problems taking place in the country, which frees up public money and lets more schools hire.

Montana has a lot of reservations, which are always in need of good teachers.

How difficult is it to find a teaching job in any of the major cities of Colorado?

We Answered:

Pretty difficult right now. The budgets have been cut in almost all of the major cities. But, if you are willing to substitute or do a long term sub-your chances are better. Apply everywhere and be willing to teach anything. Good luck!

How can I find a list of private schools in Colorado?

We Answered:

The most comprehensive place to find a list of private school's is the federal Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics' Private School Search: http://nces.ed.gov/surveys/pss/privatesc… You don't need to fill in the form; just select the state you want from the dropdown menu and click "Search".

Another source would be the National Association of Independent Schools, www.nais.org. They are an accreditation agency for private ("independent") schools in the US and Canada, usually the less-religious and more academically/economically rigorous ones. On the left side of their homepage, there's a "Find/Post Jobs" link; I did a quick search on Colorado and came up with some fairly recent postings. You may also want to look at the "Go to Parents' Guide" link, which has a "Find a School" link on it. The Find a School feature lets you generate a list by state, so you can see all the NAIS-accredited schools in Colorado.

Finally, there's Peterson's, the same company that does college and graduate school guides. They have a K-12 section (http://www.petersons.com/highschool_home… and a "Find a School" feature: http://www.petersons.com/pschools/code/p… They're not comprehensive either, but do list more religious schools and schools with military or alternative education curricula, and provide basic information about the schools, including contact information and a link to the school's website (if there is one.)

For private school jobs, in addition to the NAIS website, you might also try the Council for American Private Schools (CAPE), http://www.capenet.org/. They have a link, "Teaching Jobs" right in the middle of their homepage, and a nice list of job banks for different types of schools.

Hope this helps!

What are my odds of getting a teaching job in Denver, Colorado?

We Answered:

Jobs are tight here and unemployment is high. Getting hired really depends on your areas of expertise and what specific needs they have. The Website link to the DPS Human Resources department is broken which may be a really bad sign or just may mean a glitch.

There are two teacher's unions in Colorado. You might contact them and see if either has a job listing service.
