Teaching Jobs In Houston

Anyone using an ACP program for certification having any luck finding a teaching job in the Houston area?We Answered:
I went through the ACP program- however it was a number of years back. At that time there was less resistance to the ACP program.I am not going to say that you will not get a job. But I am going to be honest and tell you that many districts are shying away from ACP applicants in favor of teachers that have all of their credentials.
Now if you have both completed the program, and have passed your ExCets, you will probably have an easier time finding employment. Also, if your certification is in one of the most badly needed areas- such as bilingual, math, or science, you will have a better chance.
The deadline for teacher resignations was on the 7th of July. So there is a good possibility that you might be hearing something soon, as principals scramble to fill last minute vacancies.
My other advice to you is to beat the pavement. Go to the district office and check in with them. Go to some schools that you are interested in and bring along your resume. If you have had some teaching experience and you have pictures make a small portfolio to sell yourself to the schools.
Also- in a worst case scenario- check with the districts and see what you need to do to be put on their substitute teacher list. That way you can earn some money while you wait for a vacancy. It will also allow the principals to get to know you and your teaching style, so that when something comes available they will think of you.

I'm searching for an elementary teaching job in Houston. Should I call the schools? We Answered:
Most of the large districts in Texas hire the teachers, not the schools. You would need to look at the Houston ISD web site http://www.houstonisd.org/ to find out their hiring procedures.Gerald Said:

Houston Area Teaching Jobs...?We Answered:
To answer your question. It sounds like your wife applied on-line at the school's website. I can't say anything about that process, if indeed she used that method during the summer. I work for the District. I am not a teacher, but currently working towards that goal.My advice is: I noticed during the summer, the District had several job fairs for prospective non -teaching, and TEACHING positions, all was needed to do was to bring in the necessary credentials. This is how I got hired.
The next best thing to do is to go each school and talk with the principle about positions. The school's website probably is the only source of knowing where the jobs are at this time, since school is starting on Aug. 14th. I hope this helps.

best way to get a 1st year teaching job in houston? We Answered:
I'm a new teacher, too, and let me tell you, it is a competitive market out there for inexperienced teachers. Is applying online a waste of time? Yes and no. No in that most counties require you to apply online before they even consider you for a position. However, the reason why I say that it is a bit of a time waster is because if you're an inexperienced teacher, like us, there are more qualified people who have applied online who will be considered way before you. I don't have a masters or teaching experience, which means that the only way I can compete is by charming potential employers with my winning personality ; ) Go to the schools that you are interested in, ask to speak to the principal, leave her your resume, and express your sincere interest in working for their school. I still don't have a job yet, however, principals have told me that they were really impressed with my initiative. It's been a really great networking tool. Good luck! I can't believe how hard it is to find a teaching position right now!
