Teaching Jobs In Ny

Phyllis Said:

How hard is it to fine a teaching job as a Elementary School teacher in Ny?

We Answered:

Extremely hard!! Just think about how many people graduate from school every year. A ton of people for just a few jobs. I was certified to teach elementary school and I never got one interview. I got a job teaching math no problem.

You have to make yourself better by being certified in more than one area; special education and reading and big for elementary school teachers.

i'm trying to find websites that have positions for substitute teaching jobs in port jervis, ny?

We Answered:

At the least, here's a start http://www.portjerviscsd.k12.ny.us/index…
I clicked the link for "Join a winning team" but it didn't work for me.

Kristin Said:

Can an employer for a NY teaching job ask if you've ever been arrested?

We Answered:

yes they can because arrest will show up when they do the background checks, so if you lie they will find out

Marc Said:

Is it required to have a Masters degree to find a teaching job in NY?

We Answered:

I don't think so, but it definetly helps. You get paid more, and its very competitive so it would help, but no, it's not mandatory

Florence Said:

Are there any teaching jobs in upstate NY?

We Answered:

I have teacher friends from that area, and they said while it's possible, sometimes it takes a long time to find a position, especially if you want to teach a subject like English that's not in too high demand. I'd only advise people to get their teaching degree if they are pretty sure they want to teach and they either 1. teach a high-demand subject like science, math, or special ed or 2. are pretty flexible about location (willing to move to a different state if needed, or else not concerned if they have to wait awhile to get a job).

Maybe you can get another job working with teens in some way for awhile and see if you enjoy it. You can always go back and do the Master's in a few years if you decide you want it.

Will it be hard to find a Teaching job in Elementary school in NY?

We Answered:

Unfortunately, it's pretty tough finding a teaching job anywhere in the country right now-- NY included. I teach in a NYC public high school, and we've had to leave a couple positions unfilled after teachers retired, because the budget has been cut so much. We just can't hire anyone else.

I think it's always been a bit harder to find jobs in elementary ed, anyway... Colleagues and administrators have always told me that elementary jobs are in higher demand because more people want to teach elementary then middle or high school, for some reason.

I guess your chances of employment depend on your resume (Do you have your Masters or just your BA? Where did you go to school? What's your previous teaching experience? etc.) and your school district. It's waaaaay harder to get jobs in certain NY districts than in others. An assistant principal I worked with (with 10 years experience in NYC) wanted to get a new job on Long Island to be closer to his family, and it took him forever to get one; none were available.

So, anyway: it depends on many factors... but it's a pretty tough job market right now, sadly. Good luck!!!
