I would doubt that you are looking at four more years if you were to change majors, because as a sophomore, most of what you have taken so far would have been general education classes. The only way it could take you four more years would be if you had taken nothing that would be useful in your new major, and I would guess that that isn't possible. You may have taken two or three such classes, and they would count as electives in your new major. If you have one more such class or so than you need in electives, you could make up that course in summer school.

Honestly, if you already had a communications degree, you could prepare for the credential in another year or so, but it wouldn't be the most advisable major from which to do that. What would you teach, since communication isn't taught in most high schools? You would probably need another year or so just to pick up a subject matter, and you wouldn't really be a specialist in anything. I think it would be better, and faster, to change majors now.

Sorry but when I looked into it at Rose State in MWC, which is supposed to be the best in the state for this program, you couldn't have any felonies. The list of things to get in were really tough!
But this was the only school i deeply looked into.

You have to check the requirements - you cannot teach with only a masters. (I know that sounds odd)

BUT

To teach in any state you need a teaching credential. UoP does not offer credentials as they cannot fulfill the states requirement for student teaching. To teach you need:

A state issued credential (sometimes called a certification) this is only granted once you have taken your methods courses (1-2 years after your BA), passed a few tests - basic skills and subject matter verification and done your student teaching. That is a treachign credential - If you will look carefully at the description of the masters - it is *not* a credential.
