Erika Said:

I'm moving to New York - are there any recruitment agencies to help me find a preschool teaching job?

We Answered:

Are you an NAEYC member? If not, you should join. They have job listings on-line AND the membership will look good on your resume.

Also try www.jobsource.com and do a search. I was looking and it seems that many of the jobs require a degree and there's also mention of NY certification.

You might want to look into New York state certification/licensing requirements for preschool teaching as well to make sure you are qualified. http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/faq.…

Can someone tell me of some teacher recruitment agencies for Ireland, or to some sources for Irish Teaching..?

We Answered:

To teach in primary school you have to have Irish language. Irish is compulsory at primary schools and secondary schools. To teach in the UK they have the PGCE plus a degree. Ireland they have what is knowing as HDip The Higher Diploma in Education plus a degree.
The Higher Diploma in Education.
Qualifications obtained outside the EU must be acceptable to the Teachers Registration Council. There are special arrangements for teachers whose qualifications were obtained within the EU under the mutual recognition of qualifications directive. Remember Irish and UK have two different education system.

I see on your other question about taking your car with you. If you take a British registered car into Ireland and using Irish address with teaching job etc. All cars/vehicles brought into Ireland (apart from temporary visits of less than 12 months) are subject to Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) and must be registered with the Revenue Commissioners. The tax rates vary depending on engine size - but are around 25 % of the expected selling price.
People who have owned their vehicles abroad for more than 6 months and who are moving permanently to Ireland are exempt from VRT. But if you sell it within 12 months of arriving - you have to pay the tax. Irish Driving Licence: If you are moving from an EU country - you can exchange your current licence for an Irish one - for a small fee. You don't have to - but it makes sense to do so - if only because you shouldn't really continue with your old driving licence with your old address on.
If you have moved from a "non recognised" country - such as the U.S. - you need to apply for a driving licence in Ireland. You must first you must complete a driver theory test, apply for a provisional driving licence and complete your driving test in Ireland. If you pass your driving test, you will be issued with a full driving licence for use in Ireland

Recruitment agencies for psychology graduates wanting to work in the UK?

We Answered:

In the UK, jobs for psychology graduates are very competitive and sought after. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't any agencies for psychology graduate jobs because employers usually have no trouble in filling the vacancies-many of these jobs attract in excess of 100 applicants.

The British Psychological Society (BPS) publishes an appointments bulletin each month but only a few of these jobs are open to graduates-most require postgraduate qualifications too. I think you may struggle a little to get a job in which a psychology degree is essential. Unfortunately because your degree is not from a UK university you would probably need to sit the entry exams from the BPS in order to register with them as a psychology graduate as most jobs will require you to be registered with them.

You could contact the BPS via their website and they would give you some advice as to if you are eligible to register your degree with them. If so you would be in a better position to then apply for a psychology job in the UK.

Good luck!
