Renewing your Texas Credential

How about earning college credits by taking online classes or independent course work. If you've already worked for a school try contacting them to see if you would be able to sit in on their trainings. The local university in my city offers Teacher Workshop trainings in the summer for continuing education units.

Alternative Teacher Certification in Texas?

We Answered:

Well first off of the bat, I can tell you that you don't take the Praxis. Texas has it's own certification called the TeXes. You do have to take the THEA reading and math to prove that you can adequately perform in both areas. It's a pre-requisite for teaching programs in Texas. I'm not sure if online alt cert classes are available. You do a pre-internship during the summer while taking courses, then you do an internship for an academic year, then you do a post-internship where you take coursed during the summer following your internship. Here's the link for my universities alt cert program. We're one of the largest producers of teachers and educational administrators in the state of Texas.

can i obtain certification in Oklahoma to teach in Texas?

We Answered:

If you have adequate preparation as a teacher (either student teaching/internship, degree in education or other non-education bachelors degree while enrolled in an Alternative Certification Program approved by Texas), you can certify in Texas. You will need to take and pass the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) tests.

I think the TExES is offered in Oklahoma. Just look for a testing site in your area. I've included the TExES website so you can locate a center near you.

Texas Teaching questions?

We Answered:

Yep, go to that website and find the link to get info on how to transfer your Arizona certification. Do it as soon as possible, because it may take some time. But go ahead and start applying for jobs, just find a place to explain that you have out-of-state certification. They will still consider you.
