As the university standard are the same in Australia, the only way for you to compete with the other graduates are thru your final results and what other achievements that you got during your study (eg, head of student association/club).

If you graduated from RMIT (popular uni) with a straight Passes and Fails, the employer will be more inclined to take someone from say... Charles Sturt Uni with Distinctions and High Distinctions results.

Currently, ANU has a higher ranking than Melb Uni. I'm not sure how much different that makes though.

Just as a side note though, Canberra (when I visited it) is like a dead city. It's really quiet.

Melbourne has more life, I think, but I'm Melbournian so maybe I'm biased.

toefl is not to get admission. its to test if u have the language skills required to take the courses there if u get admission. most univs accept toefl. but check the site to be sure. meanwhile it looks like its not a question of whether toefl is qualified, but whether u are qualified for it!
