Im going to University in Bristol come September and Im afraid travel costs will break me & my girlfriend up.?We Answered:
My husband (boyfriend at the time) went to Portsmouth to do his degree while I stayed in Weston-super-Mare (about 15 miles from Bristol). This was a while ago but with a Railcard it used to cost me £33 return. What we did was carry on sharing the cost (we both had part-time jobs) and made sure that even though we couldn't see each other often we at least did it regularly and didn't cancel without good reason. We also spoke on the phone when we could (this was before the time when everyone had mobiles so we couldn't text each other, just had to rely on landlines. There were also no webcams at the time so we couldn't see each other unless it was face to face). We also didn't go out much when I was there- we might go for a few drinks then come home but we never really went out to eat because we'd rather have saved the money towards the next train fare. It was difficult to start with, for me because he was off with this new life and I didn't really know what was going on and I wasn't worried about other girls because we trust each other but you do worry how it will change them; and for him because I was still at home with all our friends and the places we always went and he was missing all that. It did get easier and it was quite nice really- when I went to see him we could do what we wanted, when we wanted and didn't have to consider anyone else and it was nice to have each other entirely to ourselves. There are also holidays, of course, which really break the time up.I think as long as your relationship is secure you'll be fine- as far as the cost goes sharing it seems the best way; set up reminders on Trainline.com to alert you to cheap fares, and prioritise what you spend the rest of your money on. You could both go on Orange for your mobiles (don't know if other providers do this) and have each other as magic numbers which means your calls are free. You have to accept that you won't see each other as much as you want but this is where quality over quantity matters- you just need to make sure that when you do each other it really counts. You could also make plans for a holiday together- you could go camping for virtually nothing (as long as you've got or can borrow all the stuff) or get a cheap flight somewhere and stay in a hostel. The best thing to do though is to work out how you're going to manage the cost between you, then agree to review it in say 3 months time so you can both see how it's going. Breaking up over the cost of seeing each other is a terrible thing to break up over when with a bit of organisation and accepting some limitation on how often you'll see each is so easy.

How much should I be getting taxed? We Answered:
If you're a student, you still pay tax on your income unless all of the following apply:you're a full time student in the UK, only working in the holidays
you're returning to full time education after the holiday
your total income for the year is below the Personal Allowance
Ask your employer for form P38S Student Employees - and tax won't be deducted from your earnings. National Insurance will still be deducted if you earn more than £110 a week.

Bristol: Lifestyle on 30,000 pounds per year?We Answered:
Boy not a lot of ppl jumping on this one so I will give what little I know...I lived in Wells, 40 mins or so from Bristol. 30,000 would be a reasonable amount...not huge though and looking to live outside of Bristol may be your best bet. Look at the Estate Agents web sites and get an idea of what is available to buy and to let. If you travel the public system is great but slow.Good luck. I hope more answer you soon.

Single 22 year old starting a graduate job in Filton. Where to live near Bristol and how much am i looking at?We Answered:
Filton is on the northern edge of Bristol. There is a commuter railway station there.
Nearby - Patchway or anywhere on the Gloucester Road (A38) would be a handy commute.
I had some digs on Southmeade Road, near to the Bristol Aerolplane works - The sign said British Aerospace, but the locals know it as the former.

Which university among the below are best for mechanical masters? We Answered:
They are all Universities of excellent repute; not as good as Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial and UCL but way better than most. Teaching methods and social life probably about the same.Christy Said:
What kobs could a chemistry degree lead to?We Answered:
Harry,Oh, darn, I wanted to say just about evey job can use a chemistry degree. But, okay, I won't. Here's some I know of:
Teaching chemistry in high school or college -each level is different
Food technologist for the food-selling industry
Food technologist who becomes a chef and can use the chemistry to create imagination in inventing new recipes
Chemist for paint comanies (and research for them in new, evnirnmental paints)
Chemist for art materials companies
Drug companies
Oil companies (all sorts of chemistry jobs there, and well-paid, too)
Chemical research for a whole host of companies or universities
Chemist for mining companies
Environmental toxicology -very important area of speciality
Use and creation of environmental products for all sorts of uses
Chemist for companies creating agricultural sprays
Chemist for environmentally sound products for organic farms
Chemist for all sorts of manufacturing
Dye chemist for the dyes used in fabrics
Chemist for materials of all kinds - as far ranging as from synthetic materials for the home to airplane metals, aerospace materials, etc. a vast area you would need to further research.
Love plants and gardens? Look into the horticultural field
Want to be an astronaut? Email NASA for what the needs for chemistry will be. They may go to private industry in the future, opening up the field even further than it is now. If you want to do that, keep yourself in good shape.
If you like any industry, email them and ask if they use chemists -you may be in luck.
As you can see, it is truly an endless catagory. Early on you would have to look into whether you prefer organic or inorganic chemistry, then further specialize.
