Jesse Said:

What's a good college to attend to major in Pre-Law and minor in Accounting or Spanish?

We Answered:

Pre-law is not a major at most colleges, it is preparation for law school; different colleges have different approaches. See below for some examples. Ohio Wesleyan is one of the few schools that offers a pre-law interdepartmental major, but only as a second major. Some colleges, such as Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH, will offer legal studies majors. You do not have to major in any particular subject to go to law school. Popular pre-law majors include political science, history, English, criminal justice, education, business, etc. and science major are popular for those who want to go into patent law.

You could probably major in accounting and minor in Spanish or major in Spanish and minor in accounting. Check to be sure because accounting is a business field and Spanish is a liberal arts field. If the university has these departments in different schools, you may or may not be able to major in one and minor in the other.

Some other colleges to consider that are within a few hours of Columbus, OH are listed below. All are good colleges and offer Spanish and Accountancy/Accounting majors as well as having pre-law programs.

University of Dayton
Xavier University
Miami University in Oxford, OH
Indiana University
Ohio Wesleyan
Hiram College
College of Wooster
Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH

Stephanie Said:

I am returning to School/University this Fall/Autumn to get my M.B.A.I am currently a Registered Nurse BSN?

We Answered:

Does it matter? Yes.

Going to B-School is about two things: learning about business and gaining a pedigree/network

B-Schools all teach the same basic items (e.g. accounting, finance, marketing, organizational behavior, business strategy). Sure, they teach different electives, use different books, have different quality professors - but that's more sematics than true differenences.

The key difference is going to be in the network/pedigree. For a lot of people, the pedigree of a "well known" MBA means an awful lot. I've met lots and lots of people to whom the MBA "quality" means a lot to them. For some, it is a form of short-hand - a la Larry Elison - who claimed that the education system does lots of Darwinistic selection to ensure that the best and brightest go to "good" schools. For others, its a form of socio-tribalism (i.e. "I went to that school and I'm smart and fantastic - so that person is probably also really good"). In other words, it's trying to justify one's own position/experience. For others, its about WHO you know, not what you know. Many "good" schools have outstanding networks (and support infrastructure).

So when you pick your MBA - it will matter a lot to some people and none to others. The problem is that you have no idea with whom you will be interviewing in the future. That's up to Lady Luck.

There are alternative schools that do NOT require you get your GMAT (if that's what your lone issue is). Or, if it's that big of a deal, why don't you go ahead and take the GMAT. Yeah, it's going to suck while you prep for it - but that's just one of the "flaming hoops" you have to endure that people recognize in order to go to a "good school".

FYI: U of Chicago, the Top B-School, has international campuses that do not require the GMAT. I know. I got accepted to the Singapore campus.

I need opinions and advice on these Ohio colleges/univiersities!?

We Answered:

If you are looking for strong academics...I personally like the smaller schools...Ohio Northern, Otterbein, and Wooster are all awesome!! Also, it is a lot easier to get involved with activities at the smaller schools--you could probably even play softball at those schools. =) Some other schools you might want to check out are: Ohio Wesleyan, Kenyon, Denison, Wittenberg, and Heidelberg. Good luck in your college search!

Franklin Universtiy vs. Ohio Dominican University?

We Answered:

Choose Ohio Dominican University. It's much better. Buttt...I would advice that you should go to a better college to get a better education and job when you get out of college. But if you can't afford it you REALLY should make out a plan for what you would do after college. It helps you get right on track so you don't become a couch potaote!(Trust me I've met people who just came out of college and they don't know what job they want!! Crazy isn't it?)
