Ranking Of Universities In Uk
Patsy Said:
How far university of Westminster is reputed comparing to other universities in UK?We Answered:
You should actually look at the ranking of the department you've applied to compared to others. Reading for example is only at 45 but its archaeology department is at 5 so it has a brilliant reputation among archaeologists.Westminster reputation wise...isn't all that brilliant. Theres lots of snobbery in Britain with regard to universities there are a few ranks:
1.Ancients-the old ones created before the 1900s, Oxford, Cambridge, the older colleges of London. Tons of snob value, even if they aren't the best around, which is probably why Edinburgh and Aberdeen get so many posh applicants while Glasgow (a better uni) takes the poor people.
2.Red bricks-some built before ww1 others built before ww2, Manchester, leeds, Bristol eg. They're very good and very popular, have quite a bit of snob value.
3. Plate glass-Keele, York and Lancaster are odd ones that don't really fit. They should'nt be good because they're not old and yet York is now considered one of the best in Europe, whats a snob to do here?
4. former polytechnical colleges that were transformed into universities in 1992 by parliament. Snobs don't regard these as "real universities" because they're new and started out teaching practical skills rather than the infinitely more useful aristotle.
And unfortunately Westminster is a former polytechnical college.
