What are my chances of getting into Southern Methodist University? We Answered:
Justin,They are probably 100%. I can't speak for a fact, but having been to college, and having known a zillion other people that went (including in the DFW area, where I am as well), I'd say that with a 3.5 from TCC (or whatever it is), you won't have any trouble at all. In fact - I didn't know that SMU was an exclusive college. I mean, it's excellent, but I don't think there's a 1 out of 20 acceptance ratio like Harvard or somewhere like that.
By the way, why not go to UTA? It's much cheaper, and an excellent university too - better in some ways from what I've heard. You'd have no trouble getting in - not because they can't afford to be picky, but because it's huge and there's plenty of room to let you in. They've got the philosophy of a typical huge but excellent university. If you make it, cool, if not - they'll take your money until you don't (just not nearly as much as SMU). I'm sure you'll do fine if you have a 3.5 while working 2 jobs.
Good luck
Kevin

Which is better - Illinois Institute of Technology or Southern Methodist University? We Answered:
Neither school is ranked high, and both have been criticized for taking large numbers of Indian students for their tuition money.Edgar Said:
How hard is it to transfer from Southern Methodist University to The University of Texas at Austin? We Answered:
I don't mean to be rude, but don't you think a simple phone call to U. of T. admissions office will get you the answer? Unless one of their staff is on YA you will only get opinions here, not answers. Good luck!!Marvin Said:

TCU is your best bet. Even better if you are male. They need more male students there.Pamela Said:
How does Southern Methodist University compare, academically, with the University of Minnesota? We Answered:
Academically,Southern Methodist University, commonly known as SMU, is overall a selective college, but in order to apply for graduate studies, you have to apply via the particular school you wish to study in. For example, if you want to pursue a Master's in business, you would have to apply to the Cox School of Business only. Its not like applying for undergraduate admission where you apply to be accepted into the entire school, free to choose whatever specific school or major you desire.I'm not sure what you meant by the University of Minnesota because there are various types including: Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Twin Cities. Overall, all the various divisions of the U of Minnesota system are relatively easy to gain admission. Again, I am not sure which one you wish to apply specifically, but I can tell you that, based on the collegeboard, Twin Cities is the most difficult to get accepted. However, based on the web page below, I found that that admission into graduate studies is similar in nature to SMU, you have to apply directly to the school you are interested in.
Therefore, I think they're rankings and reputation are not significantly superior over another. I think you should then choose a college based on other factors like location, costs, an actual college visit to visually see the college instead of the brochures, etc to decide.
Remember, wherever you go, the degree is essentially all that counts so if you get it closer to home, that won't make you any less successful. Prestige of the college does help in securing a job more easily but it doesn't guarantee it. But in this case, prestige isn't a significant factor so choose based on other criteria, such as what I mentioned above. I hope this helps you and I wish you the best!!!
