Dolores Said:

what are the universities in the philippines that is qualified in top 100-500 universities in the world?

We Answered:

My guess would be University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) and De La Salle University (DLSU).

I myself is a Mindanao State University (MSU) alumni who reasonably ranks up there with those three, the only difference is that MSU costs a hundred times cheaper than any of the above mentioned schools and we actually cater to the students who belong to the lower 70% of the income gradient.

Stephen Said:

How reliable is The Times Top 100 Universities?

We Answered:

About as reliable as someones list of the top 100 footballers in the world. Yes there is some kind of accuracy and some things most people would agree on in there but whatever kind of method you put into doing it it always depends on peoples personal opinions to some extent. People will always disagree on it, nobody really can have enough information to make a decision and even if they did people have different ideas of what is important. Just as it is impossible to compare Frank Lampard with Peter Cech some unis are also just good at different things. Imperial College London will be high in the rankings and with good reason because it is one of the best respected science/engineering unis in the world - but it is rubbish for music - because it doesn't offer it! Another thing is after the top few eg. Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, Durham (or Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka, Iniesta) number 15 on either list is probably not much different from number 50 - but there is a big gap there!

Students should be aware that unis gain a reputation for a reason - so called "top unis" will probably push you more and you'll be better for it and reputations can influence employability. But it is something to be aware of and way less important than something like what you think of the place on an open day.
