Adam Said:
What credentials would I need to get into a NON top 50 undergrad? We Answered:
If you blew freshman year, but since then have done well, every college will more heavily weight your good years over that one bad year. In other words, if your GPA is a bit low, overall, for a school like Rutgers, but your GPA in your last 3 years is in their range (taking out your freshman year), and your SAT is in their range, they may admit you. It's possible, so worth applying. When you look at schools, you can use sites like www.collegeboard.com and Princeton Review to look up each school and find out what the average GPA and SATs are for admitted students. That should give you an idea for how you fit.

Do you think first class honours student should get work permit? We Answered:
A 1st in Home Economics does not justify working in the UK.A 1st at all doesnt really mean much - degrees dont really mean much these days, they are not what they used to be. They ONLY mean something if it is for a specific industry which has a need for well educated employees. Also, how can you call anyone an "asset" just because of one number, a grade and a classification written on a piece of paper?
Do the "best" businessmen have 1st degrees in business? Do the "best" surgeons have 1st degrees in surgery?
Do the "best" physio's have 1st degress in sport science?
If i was running a business I would be far more concerned about skills than grades. My friend once told me of a story about his cousin - a director for an investment firm - took on a "bright" graduate from Yale University (one of the Worlds best) in America. This student could barely do simple mathematics; he was quickly shown the door.
So how do you define an "asset"? Does a 1st class degree mean you will be "better" at something than someone with a 2:1, 2:2 or lower? No! And if you do think that, you need to wake up my niave friend. The working world simply does not work like that; most employers value your other skills more highly than what grade you got at uni, so just becuase you got a 1st, it doesnt mean anything when it comes to getting a visa.

applying for UK universities?We Answered:
The only way you can apply is through UCAS. The UCAS deadline for all applications to all universities is 15th January. If you want to wait until you have your results, wait until next year to apply.
