We Answered:

I went to Oxford and to be absolutely honest with you art was regarded as a 'soft' subject. Having said that, as long as you have three solid, academic based subjects for A level (as you will do) I don't think there would be any problem with tapping art on as an additional subject, especially as it is something you enjoy and it may even help you relax during the stressful A level period! Just make sure you don't drop one of the others in favour of art. At the end of the day you only need three A levels to get in and so long as art isn't one of your 'main' three it should be fine.

It depends on the school, but it is unusual for any US PhD program to count a masters degree from another university and allow a student to go straight to the dissertation. Usually they will make you take at least some coursework (probably 3 semesters worth) and recieve another masters before going on to a PhD.
