Uk Top Universities

Mario Said:

What are the top UK universities (often referred to as "First Division" universities)?

We Answered:

Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College London, University College London, Edinburgh, Warwick, Bristol are all currently regarded to be outstanding at the moment.
The best UK universities are part of the Russell Group, like the Ivy League but for the UK. There are 20 in total and they all attain certain standards.

The Russell Group states that its objectives are to:
-lead the UK's research effort;
-maximise income for its member institutions;
-attract the best staff and students to those institutions;
-create the regulatory environment in which it can achieve these objectives by reducing government interference
-identify ways to co-operate in order to exploit the universities' collaborative advantage.

The Golden Triangle are a smaller group of universities which lead British research. The triangle points are cambridge, Oxford and London which includes Kings College London, University College London, London School of Economics and Imperial College London.

Check out The Times, Guardian and Telegraph for detailed information on which are best because some universities put alot of money into research which is great if you are a science student whereas others spend their money hiring top tutors, better for humanities students.

We Answered:

Videos " scratches head" Why videos?.

University in the UK don’t show cheese Videos. Plus they don't have to sell there University's like they do in the United States because most people go to university for free in the UK. It's mostly word of mouth. plus using your own research for example prospectuses, internet, teacher at college or school.

Joan Said:

What are some of the top anthropology universities in the UK?

We Answered:

It depends on what kind of anthropology. In the US, Franz Boas declared that anthropology departments should be a mix of linguistics, cultural anthropology, biological anthropology and archaeology. Almost all American schools follow this, but European school rarely if ever do.

Next, you need to look at league tables for the sub discipline you have chosen. League tables are a bit like newsweek's college ratings and a number of newspapers publish them each year.
Here is a link to more info about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/League_Tabl…

If you are not Harvard quality, Cambridge and Oxford are probably out, but there are still a lot of good schools available. For example, I hope to do biological archaeology at Queen's University in Belfast since it is the third rated for the country.

Good luck

How competitive is it to study History at one of the top universities in the UK?

We Answered:

Hi there. Is this for undergraduate or postgraduate study? All of them are popular universities for History and spaces will be limited. However, universities don't just look for experience in the subject you are studying in, but a more rounded experience to show that you can get on well in a unviversity environment. Your best bet is to contact the admissions departments and the history departments of the universities you are particularly interesting and find out what they look for. Then tailor your application appropriately. Good luck! :-)
