Universities In New Zealand

How do Universities in New Zealand work?We Answered:
Massey University's website is very hard to read through. It is quite text heavy. My suggestion is to contact the student recruitment officers via their 0800 number. They are employed to assist all prospects with the information they need to make the right decision into how you can enrol into the course of your choice. If I can also mention, Victoria has a pretty awesome Psychology dept and if you are still searching, they are definitely worth a look.Clinton Said:
Do universities in New Zealand accept GCE Ordinary Level results? We Answered:
Hi."O" levels are not sufficient. You would need at least three (good) passes at AS level to have university entry in NZ. Even higher marks for some courses. Eg for entry to Engineering School at the University of Auckland, you are expected to have full A Levels in Maths & Physics.

Kind regards,

Do any New Zealand universities offer research specialization in maritime history? We Answered:
Since you are planning to do a PhD, you should know how to research this yourself !1) Check any NZ University website and find the specialisms of faculty staff, records of conferences held or advertised, etc. Study conference Calls for Papers, to find where the interest exists.
2) Check titles of past PhD's granted in NZ Universities, which you can do through the Web of Knowledge database on any University Library electronic resources catalogue. If you are not currently at a University yourself, they will give you a day reader's ticket anyway, as a courtesy, and even show you how to access the info.
3) Ask for recommendations from the relevant department in whatever University you are in or near. The academic world is a small one. They read each others' work and meet at conferences, so they gain a wealth of knowledge about who is doing what and where, and are almost always happy to share it with budding research students.

How competative are New Zealand Universities? We Answered:
Hi.You'd need to do a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Physics. NZ universities don't have quotas for studying Science. You just need (general) university entrance .... and then to pass the courses. :-)
My eldest son has a BSc majoring in Maths & Physics, from the University of Auckland. (But he is a NZer so didn't need to pay high fees for international students...)
You need just university entrance (eg for American students, you need a High School Diploma PLUS "acceptable SAT 1 Scores" (which is typically a minimum of at least 1100 combined Math and Verbal). So it's not super-hard to get in .... but to PASS physics courses you need excellent Maths. Eg A good grasp of Calculus is assumed.
