Universities In Texas

Jaime Said:

What are some Universities in Texas that specialize in Creative Writing?

We Answered:

Very few schools have Creative Writing as a major, but a bunch do have it as a concentration--or at least you can take a bunch of Creative Writing classes.
After Rice, which wouldn't be for you because it is mostly known for science/math, Baylor is probably the best school in Texas, and it has a pretty good English department. UT Austin is the next best school in Texas, followed by Texas A&M (though A&M is strongest in agriculture, engineering, and the sciences.) Southern Methodist is probably the next best, and I know for a fact that they have a very strong English department. Trinity has a decent English department.
In summary--I would look at SMU first, followed by Baylor.

What are some good texas universities with photograpy majors?

We Answered:

I am also at a junior college in Texas (Blinn College). As far as a good Texas university with photography, the pickings are slim. The major universities either don't offer it, or it is not among the best. I would recommend going out of state, or go to your councelor's office and ask the councelors what college they reccomend.

are there any texas universities that offer a masters degree in montessori education?

We Answered:

I think the first poster almost made stuff up.

Let me answer your post. Then hers.

There are a few AMS training programs in Houston and Dallas. You can contact individual ones (they have E-Mail and phone numbers listed) and ask if they offer a Master's degree.

One I can recommend personally is Dr. Betsy Coe's program. Hate to say it, and I'm going to have to contact her about it, but her website is hard to read. Here's her web site:

http://www.houstonmontessoricenter.org/c…

If she can't help you, she may be able to point you in a direction that can.

Now, on to the other person's statements:

"The Montessori method was developed by a Catholic nun originally, so I would guess that private catholic universities might be your best bet for programs in it. "

??????????????? Started by a Catholic nun?

When you start off with false information, it's hard to take the rest of the post seriously. Maria Montessori was a doctor. As in a medical doctor. Just because she has the name "Maria" does NOT mean she was a nun.

"I was told that the training is completely different from a college degree, but of course that was over 20 years ago, so things could certainly have changed since then."

People can get training aside from their degree. But Montessori degrees have been along for MUCH longer than 20 years.

"As I thought, none of those listed seem to be traditional college or university programs; it's probably a separate license or certification you would get. "

??? Didn't spend much time googling then.

Is this person saying those aren't real colleges? Do I need to type the entire list I found after 30 seconds of googling?

"it seems to be one of those ideas that sounds good on paper, but doesn't work with real kids."

Sorry....it doesn't sound like she even knows what it says on paper.

If you're looking for a Montessori Degree, my assumption is you're familiar with it enough to know the first answer was not a good one at all. Start with Betsy Coe's school and, if that's not available to you because of location (or whatever other reason) she may be able to help you find something else that suits you better.

What are some good nursing universities in Texas?

We Answered:

Hi Thomas

Another question from you and another answer from me.

The other list is really abbreviated. There are 36 4-year schools that offer the BSN program in Texas, plus one new program described below [hint - tell them you'll attend if they waive tuition]. Here is the web address for the remaining 36:
http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se…

You might also want to look at Concordia University in Austin. They have a brand new RN program, headed up by the recently retired Asst Dean of the University of Texas School of Nursing. The web address is: http://discover.concordia.edu/page.cfm?p…

What are the best pre-medicine texas universities or colleges?

We Answered:

Doesn't matter what school you go to for your pre med curriculum. Just keep in mind that Pre Med is NOT an actual major...it is a curriculum designed to prepare you for the MCAT and for Med School entrance. Yes, you may get some sort of degree out of it, but you really will have nothing to fall back on if you should get into Med School and decide that it isn't for you.

Majoring in Biology or Chemistry will give you the premed requirements, plus it will allow you to earn a degree in an area that can be useful if Med School doesn't work out for you.

Discuss It!
