Many of the schools will also state whether or not they offer assistantships to current Phd candidates. You get alot more personal attention because of the small class sizes and private institutions of higher learning also have time to develop you as an innovative and progressive individual. Yes you will pay alot more but its worth the cost. In contrast to large state funded institutions of higher learning while still is a great opportunity for those seeking to advance in the world don't develope that in depth charisma that employers may be looking for. Its good to have been top of the class at a very large university but the private school institution graduate may be better suited to deal with "people" hands on. Thus the term its not what you know but who you know and how well they like you as a person. Bottom line..private universities develop the graduate to be a flexible person large institutions develop corporate drones.
