Maybe because THE only include Monash Clayton and perhaps Caulfield in the past and it has now finally realized that Monash has so many average campuses Berwick, Peninsula and etc. Besides that this year ranking is compiled using new methodology which placed less importance on reputation surveys and student-staff ratios. I would say these 2 criteria are Monash's strength. If you talk to people from from SEA, China and South Asia, don't be surprise to hear very verdict for Monash. In addition, if you look at past ARWU ranking by SJTU that has traditionally focused on academic research strength, you'll discover how moderate Monash is in terms of research strength compared to other universities in other non-English speaking countries.
