University of Alaska Fairbanks or Anchorage? We Answered:
I can answer this question as I am currently a bio major at UAF. As with any important decision I will list the pros and cons of studying at UAF.Pros: hands-on professors, ample research opportunity, ability to get personal attention at multiple times (outside office hours), great biological diversity of Fairbanks, is the state's premeir university with regards to biological sciences, lots of flexibility with regards to individual circumstances
Cons: Much of staff is determined to teach you their area- no matter how irrelevant to your interest (or the course), Temperature frequently dips into -40F, you're often indoors the entire day, many people live in cabins w/o water and don't bathe.
Hope this helps to influence your decision.

IS the University of Alaska Anchorage hard to transfer into?We Answered:
Here are the transfer requirements for UAAhttp://www.uaa.alaska.edu/admissions/adm…
It only mentions High School GPA, but it is 2.5, so I would think the requirement would be similar, and you will need you transcripts and SAT or ACT score. University of Alaska is a large school, serving students at many levels, and should be able to work with you on admission.
I am pretty sure you will be out of state tuition, at least until you establish residency. SO speak with someone at Admissions right away about how to do that. Once you are a resident the tuition is much cheaper.

good luck

University of Alaska @ Anchorage or Columbia College Chicago? We Answered:
Anchorage, Alaska is not bad at all except for cold weather and remoteness from other states. As far as I know, Columbia College Chicago doesn't have science programs (altough it is strong in film and arts) which University of Alaska @ Anchorage does. Therefore, this would depend a lot on what you want to study, how far you would like to go for college and least but not last financial aid from school. In terms of diversity as related to race, I believe Columbia College Chicago would be more diverse. But this alone shouldn't rule out these aforementioned factors.Kirk Said:

University of Alaska Anchorage?We Answered:
Ahh the infamous UAA question. I am attending UAA as an adult (ok I'm 27 but I feel old) and I love it. It's a smaller campus with lots of great people. Anchorage holds the most minorities of any other city. There are so many cultures and languages that one Black Homosexual is not going to cause an uproar. Your idea of "Masculine" Alaska is only partially true. Kids are not that way nor are many of the adults. Both places you are considering are cold.. Anchorage is a big, small city.. you will meet people one day and it's guaranteed you will run into them again at some point in time. The city has everything you need (plus beauty and great people). It's laid back and mellow whereas Chicago is a little more fast paced. It's all about what you like. Plus, Alaska is one of those places I think everyone should come to. ALSO, if you are from Oregon, you can join the WUE program and not pay out of state tuition!John Said:
Where would it be better to go to school? University of Alaska, Fairbanks or University of Alaska, Anchorage? We Answered:
Well I don't know if you've ever lived in Alaska but I could rant on about both positiv and negative things on either place. Fairbanks is my home and Anchorage I go there at least 3-4 times a year for months at a time. Anchorage is more of a city than Fairbanks. You will find plenty of activities in both areas but I would recommend Fairbanks, the surrounding area is great, more wooded and less crowded but I don't know what your idea of outdoor activities are, somethings are mountain biking, backpacking/ hiking, motorsports (dirt bikes, four wheelers, sledding(snowmobiles), snowboarding, skiing). Im always doing something outside and love it, im rarely bored even though I'm a 17 year old. Now animals, the main ones you will see is moose, birds, and ya that's pretty much it, it's not an African safari, you won't see bears that often (I've only seen a bear four times ive lived here), you'll see owls and eagles occasionally. Scenery: I would say Fairbanks since there is more "space". To me it seems more peaceful. The drive I make from Fairbanks to Anchorage is beautiful, if you ever get a chance make the drive it's only about 7 hours long but worth it.
I don't know what you are looking for exactly, I can provide more in depth details about these two places and others, each area will have their own pros and cons but it all depends on you. And if you love to travel there are some great places to go in-state that are a must, like Valdez.

whats better Humboldt State or University of Alaska Anchorage? We Answered:
I can not comment on University of Alaska Anchorage as I have never been there, but I graduate from Humboldt State. There is plenty to do in Humboldt if you are an outdoor type person. One on the prettiest places I have ever been. Right up the coast , past Trinidad is an amazing place called Fern Canyon, I think. Anyway, it is amazing.
It is a social school, rather hippie filled but they are nice.
The bar scene is small but good and people just end up hanging out at houses anyway.
The on campus housing is good, or dorms. I had some really fun times in them and if you want to party more I would suggest either Sunset or Redwood dorms on The Hill. Good Times!!!
Best of luck!!
