Since a US degree is 4 years and most Aus degrees are 3 - the credits for first year US degrees are not always transferable. US degrees do not specialise until year 2/3 - Australian degrees are specialist degrees. In the most basic terms - Australians skip the US year 1 subjects (Freshman) and jump straight to the 2nd year subject (Sophomore).
