Bob Said:

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette?

We Answered:

my neighbor's son just graduated ULL with the same degree. he loved it. He graduated with honors and feels that the instructors were on par with any other major university. while not academically "elite", it is a solid school with a growing alumni base that are making an impact in the business world. It is well worth a tour of the campus so you can make a decision. that said, who would not LOVE Lafayette. It has the most charm and style of any campus in the state. the world-class food is just a bonus (read "lagnaippe")

University Of Louisiana at Lafayette Nursing Program?

We Answered:

That is what everyone says, that it is hard. I know a few people who went to Mcneese instead, because of what they heard.
I know another person going at ULL, who dropped her nursing course and went into a different study.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette? Anyone attend/attended here and could answer some questions for me?

We Answered:

One needn't have attended University of Louisiana to answer your questions.

First of all, know this: Louisiana is hot. Worse: It's humid, too.

If you're from California, and have never been to a humid place, then you're not used to humid... and you're ESPECIALLY not used to HOT and humid.

California (I live in Napa, but am from the midwest, so I know both) is DRY. And humid heat feels hotter and more miserable. Trust me on this.

The Chicago area, where I'm from, right there on Lake Michigan is HUMID! A friend from California stayed with me one summer years ago so she could do a summer program at University of Chicago, and she complained almost DAILY how much hotter 80 degrees felt in Chicago than it did in California. If I hadn't lived right on the beach at Lake Michigan's most southern tip, where there's a nice breeze rolling in off the lake, she'd have melted, I'm pretty sure.

So, it's not necessarily hotter in Louisiana... but it certainly FEELS like it. Oy, does it ever feel like it. I've spend a lot of time in that state, and I know.

Parts of Louisian are pretty backward, too... at least compared to most of California. Things are fine in the big cities, but it's barely the 20th century in at least SOME places in that state. It's not as bad as some of Mississippi or Alabama, mind you... but close.

But then again, there are some serious hayseeds in California, too; so maybe six of one is half dozen of the other.

As far as University of Louisiana being a "dumbsh*t school," that's just a ridiculous statement. It's probably based on your mom's friend's perception of southerners, generally; and those from Louisiana, in particular.

But schools in Louisiana are very good. Louisiana State University, for example, is as good as any regionally-accredited state university in any other state. And your mom's friend has heard of Tulane, has she not?

University of Louisiana is is fully regionally accredited by...

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)
Belle S. Wheelan, President
1866 Southern Lane
Decatur, GA 30033
Phone: 404-679-4500
Fax: 404-679-4528
Email: bwheelan@sacscoc.org
Web: www.sacscoc.org

...which is one of the toughest of the six big "regional" accreditors in the US. SACS suffers no fools. If a school is SACS accredited, it is no "dumbsh*t" school.

Shame on the dumbsh*t who would ever say such a thing... and please, when next she's visiting your mother, show her this posting. How arrogant she is. Shame on her!

But the reason to go to ANY school is because it has the program you're looking for. You haven't even talked about that (nor will it do you any good, at least in my case, to amend your question because once I've posted this, like most answerers around here, I'm gone, never to return).

Sounds like you just want to leave the state to go to school... maybe for the adventure of it or something. And Louisiana, I suppose, is as good a place to do that as any. I'd not choose it (unless maybe I could live in New Orleans... yes, even in its post-Katrina state) myself, though.

At any rate, that answers your questions.

Hope that helps.

P.S. And I repeat: Shame on your mom's dumbsh*t friend... and tell her I said so!
