Yes it is considered the best in NZ in terms of traditional prestige.

In NZ perspective within NZ universities, it's like Harvard or Yale.
And, Uni of Auckland is like UC or Uni of Washington.

Weather will be quite nice and warm in February but from then on until June it will get colder and Dunedin can get pretty chilly in the winter. Dunedin even gets the odd falling of snow! The weather is cold but fairly crisp and fresh. If you do come it would pay to bring warm clothes! Dunedin's a great city, really youthful (because sutdents make up 1/5 of Dunedins population) Lot's to do! University of Otago is amazing! The old buildings are gorgeous, the learning is to a very high standard and the student culture is the best! If you want to be involved with activites there is so much to do. The uni has a very nice library and the whole campus is close together. Good luck with your decision to study abroad =]

Otago has the advantage of multiple schools and colleges converging into one, so you'll get more profundity out of it. And on a side note, living in Dunedin is pretty cheap and good fun (better air, too).
