Raul Said:

What do I have to prepare to in order to get into Oxford University?

We Answered:

There are different requirements for different majors. You don't state if you will be an undergraduate or a graduate student; makes a difference. Check out the first link below to see if your studies to date meet the requirements for someone coming from Singapore. The second and third links will provide you with more information and points of contact. Good luck.

How can I go to Oxford University?

We Answered:

Not sure it's helpful to be so pedantic. Obviously an informal internet question will not reflect the OP's grasp of formal grammer. I'm sure in your everyday life you all use grammer that you would never dream of using on a formal document/ assignment/ application form.

Anyway in answer to your question for the majority of subjects you will need 3+ A grades at A Level (or equlivant) an excellent personal statement showing lots of extra curricular activities including ones relating to your course if poss (eg. Volunteering in a hospital for Medicine). You have to choose a college to apply too and you should look at the stats showing how many students they accept for your course, how many applications they recieve and the % that are given offers. You may also have to sit a test or submit an essay/assignment depending on the subject and you should get help with this either from your school or a private tutor. You will then be invited to interview (if you are a UK student) which may last several days (so interview prep is also advisable) the interviews will be subject specific and also more generally about you, your interests and personality. If you have prepared all this well then ther is nothing else you can really do but wait and hope for an offer. Even if you do well Oxford can have as many as 10x the applicants for places so there has to be some element of luck/chance.

Also as an afterthought if the send you a list of the peopel who will be interviewing you then you should reasearch them, there specialties and any books they have written as there is a chance this will come up and also you can talk to them/ ask them about ther work and sound informed and interested.

Hope that helps and good luck with your application!

I want to get into miami university oxford campus?

We Answered:

That is an option, but also, Miami University, like most other colleges, have a higher acceptance rates for transfer students, than they do for students attending right out of high school. So you might consider going to an in state school for one year, then applying the next year. Another way to get in is to take a year and join the Peace Corps or Americorps, and reapply with "experience." This has become a popular option for those students who have a definite school they want to enter, and aren't willing to compromise.

Nicole Said:

What makes the Oxford University one of the best Univercities in the world?

We Answered:

Reasons Why if might be the best:
1. Tutors. The people who teach at Oxford are, in many cases, already high up in their fields, or are rising stars. Surprisingly often undergraduates are taught by tutors who actually *did* "write the book on it".

2. Tutorial System. Undergrads at Oxford are taught in tutorial groups often of only 2 or 3 student to one tutor. Tutorials are frequent, on the order of 3 every fortnight, with essays set for each. This means that every student has a good opportunity to discuss the material with the tutor, and no one can escape doing the work by not drawing attention to themselves.

3. Pressure. Oxford terms are short (8 weeks) and the workload is much higher than at other universities. This means that students who graduate from the university are accustomed to high volumes of hard work - not exactly academic success, but valued by employers.

4. Resources. Oxford has one of the libraries of record - the Bod - which (somewhere) has every book published in the UK. This means that students at Oxford have access to a much wider range of texts that at other universities. The university also has extensive online resources.

Of course, many of these factors are shared between Oxford and Cambridge, and the two are about equal in academic standing in most areas.

Donald Said:

How many courses are you allowed to take in university?? (oxford)?

We Answered:

I'm afraid you can't take that many. University in the UK is very specialised. When you apply to university here you do so to study one subject (or if you take a 'joint honours' degree you can study two) and when you get there that is all you study. For example, I went to Oxford and read history and during the whole of my three years there that is all I studied. There are a couple of course at Oxford that let you study 3 subjects (such as PPE - politics, philosophy and economics) but they are very limited and even then most students drop one of the three after the first year. If you want to studies a variety of subjects I would recommend that you perhaps look at American universities as they are less specialised than our universities and let you study a wider range of subjects.

Dave Said:

Are the colleges at Oxford University all very different?

We Answered:

Yes they are all different - doing a little background reading on each would be a good idea. Some colleges are more specific to certain courses. And yes, you apply to the University *via* naming a first preference then a second preference college. Having a family member who previously attended St. John's will likely stand you in good stead if you apply there. Sad, but true. Your grades will have to be exceptional.
