I am an international student planning to south dakota state university to study MS electrical enginering?

We Answered:

It depends whether or not your current institution recognizes South Dakota State. If you both have curriculum that meet SDSU requirements, you should be fine. If not, then I suggest you talk to your academic advisor, they will have a pretty good idea regarding your credits.

I suggest you also take a look at the admission requirements, I provided the link, so read it thoroughly.

What is South Dakota State University's party scene Like?

We Answered:

Back in the day when I went to SDSU, the house party scene was huge! That was in the mid 1990s. Since then things have changed a bit. Local law enforcement started cracking down pretty hard on the house parties. They're still happening, just not what I remember them to be. Don't let the frats fool you, either. They're not as serious as they look! Some are well-known for their parties. I think they just keep it a bit more quiet than it used to be.

Hobo Day is by far the biggest weekend to party it up. That's usually in late October/early November. Hobo Day is SDSU's annual homecoming...big parade, football game, lots of alumni.

Brookings has an excellent bar scene, so if you're over 21, no problem. That's where most of the partying happens in Brookings.

Believe me, SDSU students know how to party! What else is there to do in the middle of our cold winters?? Ha ha! I don't think you need to worry about giving up your early 20s without doing some partying :)

is University of South Dakota a good college?

We Answered:

Actually, yes. They are one of the underrated schools. The campus life is somewhat laid back, but the environment is good for learning. About the only thing that is a pain on this campus is the winters. Enjoy! ...but bring your long johns!

Housing near the University of South Dakota?

We Answered:

Hi Ryan,

I am familiar with the school but it has been a while since I being there so the best I can do is give you basic advice. Vermillion is a college town which means it is very much student driven and relies on the university to exist. It is about 50 miles south of Sioux Falls which is about 140,000 in population and about 110 miles north of Omaha. Both Omaha and Sioux Falls has excellent shopping areas. Plus Sioux Falls is less than an hours drive which means it is a good place for socializing and other activities. Since the town is between two cities it means it is a bit isolated but the university drives allot of business and there are a few towns that have developed around it.

One option for you would be to speak with the housing office at the school. At one time graduate students could, in limited numbers, live in the married student housing complex but I do not know if this is still allowed. Also there are several apartment complexes near the school and also a few mobile home courts that tend to be reasonable. On occasion you may encounter a family that has a large home that is renting a bedroom or a part of the home such as the upstairs. If you have a car and are willing to drive there are several small towns around the Vermillion area that can be fairly cheap. My advice your first point of contact should be the housing office at the university and second point of contact should be the English department as they can give you some good advice. From there take some time to explore the area as you will find some good housing deals if you are willing to take the time to look. Finally when talking with people offering rentals be clear that you are a graduate student as there are some who are a bit reluctant to rent to undergraduate students.
