University of Southern Maine?We Answered:
Don't know much about the school, but Portland is awesome. Unfortunately much of the campus is in Gorham, which is not so awesome. Sorry I can't be more help on the academic side, but as far as a place to live, Maine is great.Bruce Said:
Can I get into NYU Gallatin, Columbia, Boston U, or University of Maine/Southern Maine? We Answered:
You're only a sophomore; wait until you're at least halfway through junior year and have better/more accurate test scores, grades, and idea of what you want to do with your life.Other than that, I'd say you should raise your SAT score from what the PSAT predicts. On the other hand, you shouldn't worry about it because your score will rise naturally (I personally went up over 20 points) between sophomore & junior with no preparation.
As a current student, my best advice is to RELAX and not to overdo yourself with APs and pressure for perfect test scores. (I wish I could listen to myself! O_o) With the way admissions at some of the more selective schools are looking these days, no one knows what actually impresses the admissions committee. Be yourself and do what you love and everything will turn out okay!
Oh, and sorry, I know this doesn't totally answer your question, it's just my advice.

Is the University of Southern Maine (USM) Psychology program a decent one? I'd like to major in it.?We Answered:
Hi Travis!Glad to hear you are thinking about majoring in Psychology at USM. We’re proud of our department and would be happy to welcome you into our program.
Though we are not a large department (we have 9 faculty members) we work hard to engage our students in the study of all aspects of psychology. Of course, the focus of our curriculum is on the scientific foundations of psychology that provide an understanding of human behavior. Professional training in psychology (i.e., training to be a clinical or counseling psychologist) takes place on the graduate level (and we are solely an undergraduate program). Several of the students who have responded to your question have already described research opportunities in the department. Lots of faculty-student collaborative research is underway in our department; in fact, over 40 publications and presentations were co-authored by students during the past five years.
As I mentioned, graduate training is necessary for professional work in psychology, Tin fact, this is the case for most liberal arts and sciences disciplines. Not all our students pursue graduate training. Our former students have found that their training in psychology prepared them well for a variety of careers including work in community mental health centers, human resource departments, educational institutions and retail management.
I’d recommend that you check out our department’s website at http://www.usm.maine.edu/psy/
We have lots of information about the department and the undergraduate course of study in psychology. There are also links to a number of resources on the field of psychology. You may want to explore the resources in the “Psychology Careers & Grad Schools“ area (you’ll find it about half way down the list on the right).
Hope to see you in Psychology!

Associates in PSY at University of Southern Maine? We Answered:
An associate in psychology is good primarily as a step to a bachelor's degree in that subject, which is useful primarily to go on to earn a Ph.D. or Psy.D.A sociology degree usually leads to nothing useful.

I just applied to a university in maine and I was wondering how long it will take to find out if I got in?We Answered:
Generally speaking, it takes about 4-8 weeks to process an application and send out a response. If you haven't heard anything at 9 weeks, call the admission's office.
