Preparation for Biological Sciences university interview!?

We Answered:

I had an interview for biology at Oxford last year. The first, most obvious question they asked I hadn't really thought about: Why biology? It sounds stupid but I'd thought about why the university and why the course there, I just hadn't prepared a concise, enthusiastic answer to why biology in the first place! My advice would be to really think about why that's what you want to study, it's important to show your enthusiasm and interest as much as anything.

In terms of general interview tips, make sure you make eye contact with each of the people interviewing you (if there's more than one) but specifically the person who asked you the question. Take your time and try and keep your answers as honest and to the point as possible.

In my two interviews I was shown graphs and a photograph and map and basically given problems to work through. The interviewers gave me hints until I got to the correct answers so I wasn't expected to know everything. It was a really good experience even though in the end I didn't get offered a place.

Hope that helped a little, good luck! :)

can I transfer university after my first year?

We Answered:

well based on my limited information on the subject I would say you can transfer to another university next year if you want but that is if you like the course you are doing and want to continue it and you have only been there a week you might change your mind about the university. You never know something might happen to make you love it and at least give it a fair chance. If you know about the course now from this week... like the course and lesson details and it really is not for you then drop out, have a think about things and then go to university next year, no point doing something you hate for a year only to drop out then. There is no shame in dropping out, its not like you new exactly how university and the course was going to be like before you got there
hope this helped =]

University.. What are my chances?

We Answered:

It's mainly A levels (or equivalent) that count getting into uni. You only need about 200 UCAS points for Sunderland, it's not the greatest. See the second link below for a breakdown of the statistics there.

That said, it is generally taken for granted that you would have at least a C at GCSE in both maths and English. You would probably have to resit your maths.

You could try emailing any course queries to:
cet-courseenqs@sunderland.ac.uk
and see if they can give you any advice.

Does anyone go to the University of Teesside?

We Answered:

It's one of the highest ranked 'New Universities' in the UK. A new university is one which was made a university in 1992, and is usually a former further education college or polytechnic college. They generally don't have great reputations, but there are a few which are becoming equally as good as some more established universities.
