Jared Said:

Is degree of bachelor done at open university uk is recognised at every other institution, professional bodies

We Answered:

A degree is a degree is a degree.

I work for KPMG (the accountancy firm) and we employ graduates from all universities.

All we are interested in is your degree class (not which institution you studied at). We are also interested in your A level grades and your personality and work ethic.

Victor Said:

Who can i use as a reference for University (UK) because i haven't been in permanent employment either?

We Answered:

Your Tutor is ideal as many University applicants may not have been employed previously either. As for a second reference, anyone who knows you well and works in a professional field, or holds a responsible position in a setting that corresponds to the course you intend to study would make a great second choice. Ask your Tutor for further advice. This will be a really common question, so don't worry about it. Good luck.

Brandon Said:

What UK university should I go to for a year abroad?

We Answered:

If you look at the times university guide, you will see a real difference in the rankings of those universities.

The best academically is Edinburgh, followed by Bristol, then maybe York. Leeds is a bit iffy, and the other three are basically a joke.

Personally I prefer Edinburgh to Bristol (having lived in both). It has a more interesting culture, is safer, and it is much more centralised so you don't have to walk as far. I also find the people more friendly.
York is also a very nice city, however the university doesn't have half as good a reputation and Edinburgh or Bristol.

So basically, go to Edinburgh.

Stephanie Said:

What are the requirements for teaching / lecturing in H/E, F/E / University - UK?

We Answered:

Colleges tend to put weight on a teaching qualification, it can be for school age pupils or adults depending on the courses taught. For those people with useful experience, say in industry, in service training may be available for staff without prior teaching qualifications.

Universities, especially the older establishments, are rated on their research so either a PhD or industrial research experience is a big advantage if not a prerequisite. A teaching qualification is not given as much weight although would always be a plus factor. In service training is normally available and for many universities some is mandatory. Keeping at the forefront of an aspect of the subject is regarded as being essential for most staff.
