Has anyone done Utah valley university online? UVU... student loans for flight traning?

We Answered:

I am going for my professional pilot at UVU right now online. I live in VA and it is very online friendly. I already know a lot of the subject material so classes are easy and i dont spend too much time, a few hours a week. some of the upper level classes take more time when i have to write papers. My opinion is you get out of it what you put in. I dont do much of the extra readings. im trying to get my BA and i feel like im just buying a degree from there. The non aviation general ed classes are not as online friendly. some i will have to find someone to give me my tests and quizzes and mail in my papers. i got a flight loans from a different random student loan center.

Will Utah Valley University teach me to fly helicopters?

We Answered:

Pilot certificates are independent from college degrees. Some universities provide the training required to earn pilot certificates in addition to their classes.

Utah Valley itself does not train you to fly helicopters. While in their program you will concurrently attend an independent flight school to train for pilot certification. The only reason to go through Utah Valley is to have better access to financing. The aviation associates and bachelor degrees offer you no advantage in your career.

The downside to the program is that their tuition adds to the total cost of your training, and their program is specific to airplanes, so you will still require additional ground instruction from the flight school you attend.

I had a couple of students that were doing their online classes while completing their flight training with me. It seemed like they were always waiting for money because the monthly allotments were more appropriate for airplanes which are half the cost. They chose Utah Valley for the sole reason that they needed better access to student loans that would have been unavailable to them otherwise. For them it was worth it to jump through the hoops to be able to finance the cost of flying.

If you can afford it, I recommend getting your degree in something completely unrelated to aviation instead, and then going to flight school afterward. The problem with an aviation degree is that it gives you no alternative career should you ever need or want to work outside of aviation. You would be surprised how many pilots end up searching for another career, and not just for medical reasons. Alternatively, you should also consider the military if you think it might be for you.

Which school is better, The university of utah or utah valley university?

We Answered:

The education program at UVU is very good. I have a couple friends majoring in education, emphasizing elementary school. They chose to go to UVU for the program that is in place. I am a student at UVU and have not heard anything about the U of U education program.

Stacy Said:

Which university has a better teaching program, Brigham Young University or Utah Valley University?

We Answered:

Utah State has the best Elementary Ed. program in the state. Why would you want to go to BYU of UVU anyway?

Melinda Said:

Should I go to Utah Valley University for Computer science or BYU for Information Technology?

We Answered:

Yeah, I don't know what that other guy is smoking . . . BYU is more prestigious than UVU by far and even outside of Utah. He must base his college knowledge on Dancing with the Stars or something.

You should study the subject you like and are the most talented at. I don't like the sound of going for a program at a college because the comparable one at another is harder. You'll always have that in the back of your mind. So if I were in your shoes, I'd bite the bullet and go for the harder CS program, or go for IT. You'll have to figure out which you like the most though, that's what will make you happiest ultimately even if it is hard.
