Western Governors University Reviews

Perry Said:

Do you think it matters where I get my masters degree from?

We Answered:

"This is an online school that is accredited and got great reviews."

The school may be getting great reviews compared to other purely online schools, but it's MBA is not AACSB accredited, and is not noteworthy. There are now too many mediocre students attending too many mediocre MBA schools.

MBAs are today the debased coin of the realm. They do not provide the great career push they did , say, twenty years ago. In fact, studies show that attending a mediocre MBA school full-time for two years often results in a net loss of income (opportunity cost, etc). However, a respectable MBA attended part-time can pay off if the employer covers tuition — which is apparently your case. This WG MBA may give your career a boost as a "check-off" with your current employer, but don't expect it to do much with other employers in the future.

"Okay, so I should look for schools that are accredited AACSB and attend that MBA program and pay a bit more and go part time if I want this degree to pay off?"

Western Governors is regionally accredited. No problem there. WG's MBA does lack AACSB accreditation, which is the gold standard for MBA programs. AACSB-accredited online MBA are more expensive than WG, so you need to decide on the trade-off: cost vs quality...

Edward Said:

Has anybody attended Western Governors University- particularly the MSN in Nursing?

We Answered:

You should go to www.WguStudents.com and ask one of the students over there. That place is an online forum for WGU Students, so they would better answer your question.
