Adding Decimals Worksheet

Excel 2007. Add Dollar sign to a number w/o ruining the first function?

We Answered:

You can put whole functions into the DOLLAR function, like this:

=DOLLAR(SUM(A1:A4), 2)

You can also use cell formatting on the cell in question (Format - Cells, the Number tab, choose Currency).

in a exel worksheet, i took formula to get a decimal number for one place I took 3 such decimals.Added- wrong?

We Answered:

I'm not sure I understand exactly what it's doing...can you give us the numbers you added and what number it gave you?

Check the number formatting for the cells you are dealing with. You can set excel to show only a certain number of decimals no matter what number you type in. So for example, if you were adding 2.55 (which would show 2.6 ) and 3.06 (which would show 3.1) you might expect it to give you 5.7 when the actual answer is 5.61 (which would show up as 5.6 rounded). If you click on the cell, then look up in the formula bar it should show you whether the number you see in the cell is actually what was entered or if it is the rounded version.
Also, sometimes just changing the format won't change it back, you might have to change format then retype the number to get it to show right. Also...if all the rounding is causing you problems, can you just use the rounding format in the answer, not the items going to be totalled?
