Counting Money Worksheets
Maria Said:
Money recognition worksheets, where do I find them?We Answered:
Don't use a worksheet. Pull out the real coins! Much better learning and more realistic. Don't lay them out and quiz her, talk about the coins, what's/who's on them, how much they're worth.Set up a store of household items with little price tags and ask her to show what coins she needs to buy each one.
Worksheets are so silly. Especially when they are replicating something you can easily obtain - children learn better touching, seeing, hearing things.
It's so easy to fall for the 'school' way of doing things, but the school way is pretty stupid. So resist falling for it.

Here is a video that patiently teaches counting in Mandarin Chinese:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDtWozauf…
In regards to counting higher numbers, one should remember that Mandarin uses names for numbers in a 1, 10, 100, 1000, AND 10000 system. So, where in English we would say "two-hundred thousand", in Mandarin they would say "twenty 'ten-thousands'" because they have an individual word "wan" which means ten-thousand to us. Likewise, our "one million" is spoken as "one hundred ten-thousands", and "ten million" is spoken as "one thousand ten-thousands"..

I need activities that can help teach money skills to blind, multiply handicapped students.?We Answered:
try to use the concept of "incidental teaching" - tt works best with childrne with special needs. basically, incidental teaching means they learn in the natural occuring environment. for instance, if u r teaching money skills, u can pretend to start a shop/ bring them to the school canteen and with a budget (e.g. $0.50), get them to experience making a purchase. generally, incidental teaching helps these students to transfer their learning to the real-life environment which help them to function and integrate better.Cindy Said:
