Dividing Decimals Worksheet

Naomi Said:

how do you do dividing by decimals ?

We Answered:

10 divided by 10 = 10 / 10 = 1 and multiplying a number by one does not change the value of the number.

To divide 28.9 by 8.5 write it as a fraction: 28.9 / 8.5.
Now multiply that fraction by 10 / 10:

(28.9 / 8.5) x (10 / 10) = 289 / 85.

If you are dividing numbers and one or both of them have decimal points, GET RID of the decimal points by multiplying each of the two numbers by 10 or 100 or 1000 or ...

How about 0.46 divided by 230 ?
First, write that as 0.46 / 230 = 0.46 / 230.00 so that both the numerator and the denominator have two digits after the decimal point.
Second, erase the decimal points (multiplying by 100 / 100).
This gives you 46 / 23000.
Third, use long division (which I am not sure how to type here) or write as 46 / 23000 = (46 / 23) x (1/1000) = 2.0 x (1/1000) = 002.0
(with the three zeroes in 1000 telling you to move the decimal point three spaces and the 1000 in the denominator telling you to move the decimal point to the left).

100^(5/2) x 10^(1/4)?

We Answered:

Hello. I ve tried it with calculator and it was same answer. 177827.941
then i checked , when i write to calculator SAME THIS:
100^(5/2) x 10^(1/4) it give me that result.

100^(5/2) = 100000
10^(1/4)=1.77827941

and calculator multiples them!

But when i see the problem i thought the truth is this:

100 ^ ((5/2)*10^(1/4))

and it's :

778748189.9

i dont know which is right well...

Jamie Said:

Please explain the process of dividing fractions to me!?

We Answered:

this is difficult to explain in text, but i'll try by explaining #1...

so u set it up like:

____
20) 19

then u see that 20 can't go into 19, so you put a decimal above the 9 where you put the answer, and a ".0" after the 19 (because 19.0 is the same as 19)

___.__
20) 19.0

then you divide 20 into 190.... (ignore the decimal in the 19 part....) and then put the answer after the decimal point where u would normally put the answer.

___.9___
20) 19.0
- 180
__________
10

then you add another "0" after the "19.0" and drop down that zero and get...

___.9__
20) 19.00
-180
___________
100
then divide 20 into 100 and get 5... which u put next to the 9 in the answer. so your answer is "0.95"
I hope that helps.
