What maths subjects should I look into?We Answered:
Huge fun this one, very very easy but not at all intuitive so you can get lots of pints on it in the local or cokes at the youth club or whatever. You have a rope lying round the equator and want to lift it one foot above the equator all round.
Assuming the equator is a circle, how much extrra length of rope do you need?
The equator is 24 000 miles round..

Try topology.......
There is a problem about the five bridges over the Seine in Paris to an island... Euler got there first with the five bridges of Konigsberg
http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journ… . . .
Can you walk over each bridge only once and get back to where you started from?
Thousands tried in Paris, walking the bridges in one order after another for a Sunday afternoon "Must do".
It was all the rage.
The paths over the bridges were crowded with people trying to do it...
.... for months.
Somebody has to solve it sometime. I'll be famous, haha.
Impossible.
Read up about nodes in spaces, on plane surfaces, spheres, cups, Klein Bottles.cups and jugs are good ...handles make all the difference.....alll fun
What can you do on the surface of a cup with two handles that you can't do if the cup has one or three handles?
Can you comb the hair of a long-haired hippie tennis ball so it doesn't have a parting or a bald point?
Nope. Impossible. Why?
Mathematicians are fun too. So many different styles of people, from clowns and happy-go-lucky adventurers to stiff-collared serious clerical types.

Alice in Wonderland was written by a maths lecturer at Oxford University. Alice through the Looking Glass is about logic and number theory, but disquised in a children's story.
Top one on here

And lastly don't forget the importance of everyday language in understanding a problem.
This one is hilarious. For a 7-year-old's homework!
GRIEF..........And you reckon you weren't so good at maths eh? Laugh with this one if you've got a couple of days to get through my very long answer, added to with he rand others various totally crazy comments.......Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. Even some of the answerers can't tell the difference between 8x5 and (8x5)+8

would this work to get my math teacher fired ...?We Answered:
Spy pen is probably illegal.Do take notes that include specific examples, dates and times. Speak to your headmaster or principal...chances are he/she is aware of his poor performance. Ask your school leader for help. Approach your principal asking for help not with the attitude off getting the teacher fired. Share and discuss your documentation. Ask your principal how Mr. X's students do on tests compared to other teachers. (Find this out yourself if possible and present this data to your principal). Offer the principal a copy of your documentation...be professional not petty. (You just don't feel that you are learning what you need to...not complaining over the workload or his poor taste in fashion or his attitude.) Parental complaints carry a lot of weight also. Should you not get results from your principal ask your parents to help by speaking to someone at the division level.
NO child should have to be subjected to poor teaching. PERIOD! Your future depends on it!

GCSE maths - moving averages? We Answered:
a) (74+83+112)/3 = 90 to the nearest whole number(83+112+78)/3 = 91
So your answers are correct
b) (74+83+112+78)/4 = 87 to nearest whole number
Again, correct.
c) (112+78+91+x)/4 = 96
(281+x)/4 =96
times by four
281+x = 384
minus 281
x= 103

would this work to get my math teacher fired ...?We Answered:
Lord how mercy at these sorry teachers. YOu are right, schools NEVER listen to the students! What you need to do is have as many students as you can to write a list of everything that has been done and said. With locations and dates, if possible.
Then tell them to ask their parents to all get together, as many as they can, and take the lists with them. THey go to principal and DEMAND that something be done, or they will go up the chain to the superintendent AND contact the local newspaper to have this story put in the paper!
Unfortunately, it is about IMPOSSIBLE to have teachers fired, and this is why he's doing all this.
That's why there are so many SORRY teachers ,because they KNOW they can't get fired!
Go get 'em !!
Even though I don't agree with students having cell phones in class, have a student to record what this teacher is doing and saying! But then, have the PARENTS present this to the principal, NOT the students !

Which maths text book should I buy?We Answered:
Tell me about how much math you're familiar with -- are you comfortable with trigonometric identities? Matrix algebra? Basic calculus? Also, it'd be helpful to know what your goals are here -- do you just want to learn math for its own sake, or do you want background for a specific area, like physics or mathematical finance? Or are you primarily interested in doing well on one of the examinations you mentioned (I'm an American, so I'm not particularly familiar with standardized subject exams).Vickie Said:
