Math homework help? [7th grade]?We Answered:
6. For this question, you know 2 things. ONE: The lawn care service has a flat fee of $10, meaning no matter how long it takes, you have to pay at least $10. TWO: It will cost $15 for every hour.The "unknown variable" (or "x") is the number or hours because that determines the total cost for having your lawn moved and fertilized. The answer in this situation would be: 15x + 10. Since it's $15 for every hour, it can be expressed as 15x (when x represents the number of hours) and you + 10 because that is the flat fee. To evaluate it for 4 hours, you know x represents the # of hours, so just substitute it. y = 15(4) + 10. Calculate it and you have your answer. :)
#8 and #12 are pretty much simple algebra questions. Basically for algebra, just remember that you want to "isolate" the unknown variable. In #8, the unknown variable is f, and #12 would be s. So in the end, you want to have f = a number and s = a number. This means you have to get rid of all the numbers on that one side, and to do that, do the opposite of each number on BOTH sides.
That may be confusing, so here's an example. :D For #8,
f/10 - 1 = 2.
The OPPOSITE of -1 is +1, so you must do that to both sides.
f/10 - 1 + 1 = 2 + 1
Basically if you have -1 + 1, it will always equal zero, so you can just cancel it.
f/10 = 3
The OPPOSITE of dividing by 10 is multiplying by 10, so do it to both sides.
f/10 x 10 = 3 x 10
Since you have dividing by 10 AND multiplying by 10 on the left side, they cancel each other out. Therefore, in the end you get
f = 30.
You can even check if the answer is correct. 30/10 - 1 = 2. Therefore, it's correct.
#12 is basically the same. First you would subtract 2 from both sides, and then multiply by 3 on both sides. :)
#3. You can choose any letter you want as your "unknown" variable, people usually just use "x". So the unknown in this situation is the # of eggs you use. You know in the recipe you need 5 times the number of eggs, and then 2 less than that. So in the end, it would be 5x - 2.
#4 is the same. The unknown variable is the # of megabyte in the computer. You know it's 10 LESS than the number of megabytes (subtraction) then you divide that by 6 to get your expression.
#14. Same as #6. The "unknown" this time is the the # of miles you walk. You know it's $2 for every mile, and the flat fee is $5. Find the expression and substitute in 20.
#15. This is the same as well, the "unknown" would be the # of weeks. Johnny can produce 8 tomatoes every week, and already has 6 (which is the same as the flat fee in the other questions. Just find the expression and substitute in 30 for x.
I hope I helped! :)

Math Help?? 8th grade algebra!?We Answered:
slope = rise over runf(0) = 4 means that it passes through (0,4)
f(3) = 13 means that it passes through (3, 13)
m = (13-4)/(3-0)
= 11/3
I hope this helps!
