My four year old is scared of learning to read/write?

We Answered:

I am sure she will pick it up when she is ready.. The worry is when we go on and on about it they tend to dig their heels in.

Some practical things first.
1. have you taken her to the optician to make sure she is seeing ok. an eye test might be an option.
2 a reward chart for simple achievements can be helpful in many aspects of training.
3. try doing a game like hidden treasure where the clues are initially in words and pictures and once she associates them then try another time with words only.

Try not to stress she will get there soon.
Enjoy her while you can in a few years she will be way too independent to sit with you and let you read a book to her.

How can I help an older man learn to write?

We Answered:

for a man in his upper 60's he should be corrected. at this point he needs all the help he can get and not correcting him would not be helping him. i think your idea about having him try to write is good, but you need to teach him the basics before you do anything. he needs to know that at the beginning of a sentence there is a capital letter, and at the end there is a period, exclamation point, or question mark depending on what kind of sentence. then from there you can have him write. then you can go back and teach him about commas and that sort of thing using his story. show him where you put commas and then let him try to put some in. hope this helps!

My four year old daughter is scared of learning to read and write?

We Answered:

I know that you probably don't want to hear this but it could be a learning disability. If that is the case she can get help and actually grow out of the disability. You should look into if the school has an Occupational Therapist or see if you can get her tested by a specialist. She might have just said yes to your question because she might have thought it was what you wanted to hear. She could have dyslexia or something like that.
