How do you solve this math problem? (elementry school)?We Answered:
OK, so define a work rate for each participant. I'm just using their names, but it's actually representing the amount of work that person can accomplish in one day. Define also a total amount of work required to finish the job. I'm using "W."The problem tells me: W=4Sams, W=6Lisas, and W=2Toms
Using the previous three equations, I know that:
2Sams=1Tom, 3Lisas=1Tom, Tom is the man!
If I choose to use "T" as the amount of time the three work for, the problem also tells me:
TSams+TLisas+TToms=W
TSams=T/2Toms, TLisas=T/3Toms
Substituting:
T/2Toms+T/3Toms+TToms=W
Multiplying everything by six to remove fractions:
3TToms+2TToms+6TToms=6W
Simplifying...
11TToms=6W
Substituting 2Toms for W...
11T/2W=6W
Simplifying...
11T=12
T=12/11, so it takes the three of them a little more than one day to finish the job.

How do you solve this math problem?We Answered:
Assumecurrent age of Miguel is X
current age of Grandfather is Y
Current total age - X + Y = 68
In 3 years - (X-1)6 = Y+3
add the two equations
X + Y = 68
6X - Y = 9
-------------------
7X = 77
so X = 77/7 = 11 (Current age of Miguel)
Y = 68 - X = 68 - 11 = 57 (Current age of Grand Father)
