As long as you cover the basics, then it is an okay plan.

If you are planning to go to college, I would suggest having a literature program with a few classics thrown in it.....

You need to write essays on different subjects throughout the year, book reports, etc.

My son is 13 and taking high school Algebra, we use Saxon Math. His 10 year old brother is taking pre-algebra for 8th graders by Saxon Math.

As far as Science, a good General Science course with experiments and reading and tests would be good for a 8th or 9th grader...... (Make sure to cover Physics, Biology and Chemistry)

In 8th grade spelling is not a must anymore, vocabulary is.......

History, do some World and American history and make sure to include geography, make sure it is History, NOT Social Studies......

I did not hear any mention of Foreign Language; a must if going to go to college.( my 13 year old is in his 5th year of Latin and 2nd year of Greek, and my 10 year old is in his 1 year Greek, and 3rd year Latin)

Also throw in something just for the fun of it and something that you always wanted to do or learn.....

Hmm... if you are looking for live tutoring help on any subject, absolutely free, I suggest a certain website. However, you must have a library card number to access. You must also live in alabama, I believe. The site doesn't even ask for your name, you just need a library card number and a zip code. This is a library supported website.
